Meredith Shiner is Director of Communications for the UChicago Urban Network. She is a veteran strategic communications professional and former Congressional reporter with a deep passion for public policy at every level of government.
Most recently, she was a director of media at the global public relations firm, Golin, where she specialized in media relations strategy for a diverse portfolio of clients across the agency’s corporate, health, consumer and crisis communications practices. With expertise in traditional and digital media, she has secured interviews and coverage in top-tier outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Business Insider, The New York Times, as well as in a wide-range of trade publications.
As a national political and Congressional correspondent for Politico, Roll Call and Yahoo! News, Meredith built her journalism career on the coverage of complex policy debates, from health care and Wall Street reform to countless appropriations battles. She reported on multiple presidential and midterm elections. Additionally, her writing has been published in Congressional Quarterly, The Economist,The Daily Beast, Yahoo Sports and Deadspin. Meredith also has broadcast media experience, having appeared on MSNBC, Fox News, CNBC, PBS, ESPN-2, C-SPAN, NPR, ESPN Radio, SiriusXM, and Yahoo News! With Katie Couric.
Meredith previously served as Deputy Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Cook County, where she was hired mid-communications crisis to help reposition the president and government through development of topline messaging on core County functions and an executive visibility campaign. Before that, she was a vice president of a boutique public affairs consulting firm in Chicago, managing a corporate client portfolio, which included colleges, professional sports teams, non-profits, technology firms and real-estate companies.
Meredith holds a degree in political science from Duke University and is a lifelong White Sox fan, despite growing up in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
